Views from the Viking village - Iceland

Views from the Viking village - Iceland

One of my favorite things we saw in Iceland was this amazing little Viking settlement. No, it isn’t old. It is a replica settlement built in 2009 for a movie that was never made. It has, however, been used in several productions, like Netflix’s Witcher series (I have not seen it yet). The owners have left the village intact and allow visitors to explore it for a small fee. The village is in a state of beautiful decay. The wood is weathered, and the roofs are starting to sag a bit, but the natural ageing of the site only makes it feel more authentic. It was one of my favorite things we visited in Iceland. The Viking village is located at the foot of Vestrahorn Mountain on the Stokksnes Peninsula in southeast Iceland.

I am so thankful for my awesome adventure buddy. I am so lucky to have an amazing wife who puts up with and supports me stopping countless times for photos. She really made the trip for me.

There is an amazing black sand beach in Iceland known as Diamond Beach. A massive glacier calves off large chunks of ice which slowly float along a lake, down a river, and eventually out to sea. Some of these icebergs get pushed back onto the black sand beach. Wow! They are beautiful! I can see why they got the nickname “diamonds”.
