These amazing passage tombs are estimated to be over 5000 years old which makes them older than the Egyptian pyramids. These prehistoric sacred sites are aligned in such a way so that the rays of the rising sun on the spring and autumnal equinoxes light up the tunnel leading to the heart of the mound. The site has a commanding view. Even with the rain and clouds last night I could still see the Wicklow/Dublin mountains (to the southeast), the Mournes (to the north east), and the mountains of Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo (to the west).
